The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of Nepal on December 1 in Kathmandu for the technical cooperation project “Career Development for Overseas Workers and Entrepreneurship Support Project.
In Nepal, the main domestic industries are limited to agriculture and tourism, and there are few employment opportunities with sufficient salary levels, so the number of people working abroad for migrant purposes is rapidly increasing. As a result, there is a shortage in the working population. It is expected that human resources who gain experience abroad and return to Nepal with human networks and funds will play an important role in promoting domestic industry and creating jobs. There are many Nepalese living in Japan, and it is expected that those who return to their home countries after completing their employment in Japan will utilize their experience and knowledge in Japan to work or start their own businesses, thereby contributing to the promotion of industry. However, it has become clear that their experience in Japan is not fully contributing to Nepal’s industrial development due to insufficient opportunities for them to work after returning to Japan, acquire the know-how necessary to start a business, access funds, and so on.
Against this backdrop, this project will establish and operate a program and system in Nepal to provide information and mentoring services that contribute to career development and entrepreneurship for human resources returning from Japan, thereby contributing to human resource development that will contribute to Nepal’s industrial development and SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) Goal 8 ( Both job satisfaction and economic growth).
