G-SHOCK announces the “G-B001,” a watch with a bezel that appears like a capsule toy. Equipped with gimmicks such as detachable bezel and interchangeable band

Posted on December 5, 2022 by News Admin

On December 1, Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced the G-B001, which inherits the form of the G-SHOCK DW-001 released in 1994 but with a detachable bezel. The release date is January 27, 2023.

With the “DW-001,” G-Shock introduced a rounded design that differs from the rugged, hard form of its predecessors based on the concept of “capsule toughness. The soft, curved form expresses strength, and since 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of G-Shock, the company aimed to reissue the “DW-001,” a model that has been popular with fans and packed with a sense of fun.

The new “G-B001” is inspired by capsule toys, multiplying the pleasure of the moment of opening as well as wrapping. The soft form remains unchanged, but the resin bezel is removed to reveal a metal bezel. Although there was initially a proposal to create a bezel that was at odds with the iconic rounded bezel, the design of the bezel was retained for fans of the first model. Since the bezel is removable, the resin bezel must be neither easy to remove nor difficult to remove, and it can be seen that the technology that has evolved since the first model was launched has been incorporated.

The resin bezel incorporates a two-tone coloring that follows that of the DW-001. On the other hand, the metal bezel has a hairline and mirror finish in parts. The model with the yellow-colored resin bezel had a bold rainbow IP applied to the metal bezel, making it shine more brightly when it moved than the first-generation model.

The seconds counter located in the upper left corner of the dial also has a secret. While most watches have a regular display, the “G-B001” incorporates a sense of playfulness, with blocks randomly piled up like in a nostalgic game. The playfulness that has distinguished the first-generation “DW-001” from other models has been fully incorporated in this model as well. While focusing on design, the new model also meets G-SHOCK standards such as shock resistance, allowing for safe and active use.

The yellow-colored main model is a set box specification that includes an interchangeable resin bezel and band. The yellow model comes in a set box that includes an interchangeable resin bezel and band, allowing users to match the watch with their favorite street casual or tech-active fashions. The resin bezels and bands will not be sold separately, so be sure to keep them in a safe place to avoid losing them.

Prices are 44,000 yen for yellow and rainbow, 33,000 yen for gray and gold, and 34,100 yen for black and silver.
