Izumo City will designate the period around “Izumo Day,” which will be celebrated on January 26, 2023, as “Izumo Week,” and will hold various events mainly along Shinmon-dori.

From January 25 to 31, a special visit to the Yatsushimon (eight-foot gate) of Izumo-taisha Shrine will be held, which is normally off-limits to visitors. Normally, visitors come from outside the Yatsushimon Gate, which is located in front of the main shrine building, but on this occasion, visitors will be able to see the main shrine building, a national treasure, up close from inside. Visitors can also receive explanations from priests about the history of Izumo-taisha Shrine. The special visit is limited to 20 people each time and costs 3,000 yen.

A “special night kagura prayer” will also be held. The event will be held on January 27 and 28, with a maximum capacity of 150 people per session. The fee is 2,000 yen, and the prayer fee is 5,000 yen per request.
