Walt Disney Japan will release a series of items featuring the Chinese zodiac to add color to the New Year at Disney Stores starting December 9.
In honor of the year 2023’s zodiac sign, the rabbit, a collection featuring Judy Hopps, the police rabbit from “Zootopia” will be offered. The collection will also feature a Daruma doll motif to celebrate the New Year.
The “Zootopia” collection was created with the wish that, like Judy who believes in dreams, this year will be a year of leaps and bounds as she pushes forward toward her dreams. The Takasaki Daruma dolls featuring Judy and her partner Nick Wilde, a fox, are handmade one by one by craftsmen. Instead of the usual “Fuku” written on the Daruma, a necktie was designed for Nick and a carrot for Judy. The lineup will also include items with carrots as icons, from Nick to Judy, who is called “Carrots.
The Daruma doll collection, featuring Mickey & Friends, is designed in gorgeous spring-like pastel colors. The New Year’s lineup includes a kadomatsu, shimekuri decorations, kagamimochi (mirror-shaped rice cake), and pochibukuro set. A plush toy doll the size of a rice ball also makes its first appearance.
From the Pooh plush toy series, Pooh and his friends in zodiac costumes, Pooh and his friends are dressed in white and beige rabbit costumes. They hold carrots and possess long ears, and are made of fluffy rabbit-inspired material. The plush keychains are designed with the characters tilting their heads slightly. Disney Flagship Tokyo and Shop Disney will also sell a limited number of plush toys and plush keychains of Pooh in his pink rabbit costume.
The “TSUM TSUM” series also offers a total of eight types of Mickey & Friends and Pooh & Piglet in rabbit costumes. They wear rabbit costumes with red eyes and three-dimensional noses, and when all types are lined up, the coloring resembles red and white buns.
Fashion models in the plush world, “nuiMOs” and Disney Store original character “UniBEARsity” will sell exclusive costumes associated with the Year of the Rabbit. Each is available in two colors, pink and white, and features a fluffy rabbit-like material, a Japanese-style plum flower ornament, and a red braided ribbon.
