JAL Adds Seafood One Tray Menu to Business Class Inflight Meals. Donations to developing countries for advance cancellations and other efforts to reduce food waste.

Posted on November 17, 2022 by News Admin

On November 16, JAL announced that it will further expand its SDG-conscious initiatives for in-flight meals. The “JAL Ethical Choice Meal Skip Option,” which allows passengers who do not need in-flight meals to request cancellation in advance, will be available on all international routes starting in December, and the company will also add a menu item to its advance reservation system that prepares in-flight meals in response to requests. Tuna wrap sandwiches made from Wakame seaweed will be offered in First Class and Business Class on some routes.

JAL Ethical Choice Meal Skip Option A service that allows passengers who do not need in-flight meals to request cancellation in advance, which has been offered mainly on Southeast Asian and East Asian routes since its launch on Bangkok routes in November 2020. This service is said to be particularly popular with late-night flight passengers, as it helps them reduce food waste while taking a rest on board. For every meal cancelled, JAL donates a certain amount of money to the TFT (TABLE FOR TWO International) office to be used for school lunch programs for children in developing countries suffering from hunger. JAL aims to reduce food waste, alleviate hunger in developing countries, and support an environment where everyone can receive a quality education.

New Menu Added to Business Class In-Flight Meal Advance Reservations A new menu has been added to the Advance Reservations program, which prepares in-flight meals according to the individual requests of each passenger. In addition to the existing Japanese and Western (beef) meals, a new Western menu offering seafood and other dishes has been added to the Business Class menu for routes departing from Japan, and will be updated once every three months. In addition, to allow customers to spend more free time after their meal, the restaurant has begun offering “Express Meals exclusively for advance reservations,” which can be enjoyed quickly and deliciously in a single tray. The first meal, “Eel Gozen,” features kabayaki eel from Nodaiwa, a long-established eel restaurant. The company claims that the advance reservations will help optimize the number of in-flight meals and reduce food waste.
