The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of Moldova on November 11 in Chişinău, the capital of the Republic of Moldova, for a grant of up to 1 billion yen for the “Medical System Strengthening Project.
Moldova has been working to reform its healthcare sector, but the development of healthcare infrastructure, including the replacement of aging equipment and the procurement of new equipment to improve the level of medical care, is still in its infancy. In addition, due to financial and human resource shortages, it is expected that many displaced people from neighboring Ukraine will continue to enter and stay in Moldova, and the country will continue to face a shortage of medical resources.
This project aims to improve medical services and the standard of living of Moldovan citizens by upgrading medical equipment at five medical facilities in the city of Kishinau that are receiving displaced Ukrainian citizens. This project is expected to maintain and strengthen the healthcare delivery system in Moldova and contribute to SDG Goal 3 (health and welfare for all).
