Honshima Kisen Launches First New Vessel in 20 Years, “Nijimaru,” Between Honshima, Ushijima, and Marugame in Kagawa Prefecture

Posted on November 6, 2022 by News Admin

Honshima Kisen Kaisha will begin operating its first new vessel in 20 years, the “Nijimaru,” on November 7. It will be used on the route between Honjima, Ushijima, and Marugame in Marugame, Kagawa Prefecture.

Barrier-free seating has been newly added to make it easier for elderly people on the aging main island and Ushijima to use the service. Wheelchairs can now also board. The ship’s name, “Nijimaru,” was chosen from among more than 1,500 applications. The ship’s sides and ceiling are decorated with an illustration of a rainbow.

The first flight will depart from Marugame Port at 12:10 p.m. on November 7. General passengers are welcome to board the boat, but if there are too many people who wish to board, boarding may be adjusted with numbered tickets.
