The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) of up to 23 billion yen with the Republic of Ecuador on October 27 in the capital city of Quito for the “Emergency Assistance Loan for New Coronavirus Crisis Response.
In Ecuador, where the socioeconomic impact of the spread of the new coronavirus has been severe, this project aims to improve policy systems in the social security sector, employment recovery, and health sector, including improvement of child malnutrition, through financial assistance cofinanced with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), thereby contributing to economic and social stability in the country and This will contribute to the promotion of economic and social stability and development efforts in Ecuador. By supporting the Ecuadorian government’s policy and institutional improvements in the social security and health sectors, the IDB will contribute to SDGs 2 (zero hunger), 5 (achieve gender equality), and 10 (eliminate inequality among people and countries).
This project is the first co-financing in the health sector in the country under the CORE (Cooperation for Economic Recovery and Social Inclusion) co-financing framework with the IDB, and is expected to have the effect of expanding cooperation in this area through cooperation with the IDB.
