Pollen dispersion in spring 2023 to increase mainly in Kanto to western Japan. Slightly lower in northern Japan, and generally normal or above normal in eastern Japan.

Posted on October 5, 2022 by News Admin

On October 4, Weathernews released the “First Pollen Dispersion Trends” for the 2023 pollen season.

Pollen in spring 2023 is expected to be higher in Kanto, Tokai, and western Japan. Especially in western Japan, the amount of pollen dispersal will be about 1.7 times that of 2022, and in some areas, the amount of pollen dispersal may be more than three times that of 2022. The summer, which is suitable for male flower growth due to high temperature and high sunshine, will be a “surface year” with high pollen dispersal, especially in western Japan.

On the other hand, in northern Japan and the Hokuriku area, the amount of dispersal is expected to decrease, with some areas expected to be 50% below the 2022 level. Compared to the normal year, there is a slight increase in western Japan, eastern Japan is generally on par with the normal year, and northern Japan tends to be slightly lower. The national average is expected to be about 112%.

The WeatherNews Web site has published the detailed “First Pollen Dispersion Trends” by region, reminding people to take hay fever countermeasures in areas where the amount of pollen dispersal is expected to increase.
