Aichi Prefecture will hold a special exhibition, “Yayoi Culture of Hokuriku: Yokaichi Region Ruins and the Tokai Region,” at the Aichi Asahi Ruins Museum (1 Asahi Kaizuka, Kiyosu City, Aichi Prefecture) to introduce the Yayoi culture of the Hokuriku region and excavated artifacts. The exhibition will be held from October 22 to December 18.
The Yokaichi Ruins, located in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a representative Yayoi period settlement in the Hokuriku region. The 1,020 items in the city’s collection, including gravestones and farming tools made of locally produced stone, are designated as national important cultural properties. There are also many artifacts related to the Yayoi culture of the Tokai region, including the Asahi Ruins in Aichi Prefecture.
In this special exhibition, approximately 40 pieces of earthenware and stoneware excavated from the Yokaichi site will be on display, as well as the latest excavated artifacts from the excavation survey by the Ishikawa Prefectural Archaeological Center and cultural properties designated by Ishikawa Prefecture.
On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from October 1 to December 25, the “Ancient Experience Program” will be held, where visitors can try their hand at making Yayoi clay figurines and miniature stone tools (paid participation; advance registration required). In addition, on November 6, there will be a lecture meeting entitled “The Nodal Point of the East-West Yayoi Culture on the Sea of Japan: The Yokaichi District Site” (free of charge, advance registration required), and on December 3, a lecture history cafe entitled “The Yayoi Period, the Yi-Relationship between Hokuriku and Tokai” (free of charge, advance registration required).
