Kinshasa Urban Transportation Master Plan (PDTK) Implementation Promotion Project

Posted on September 20, 2022 by News Admin

Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, is expected to become the largest city in Africa with 25 to 35 million people by 2050, and is expected to play an important role in transportation and logistics in the country, in addition to serving as the core of growth for various industries. However, due to the extreme concentration of population in urban areas and the underdevelopment and inadequate maintenance and management of transportation infrastructure caused by years of civil war and political instability, infrastructure supply and transportation capacity have not kept pace with transportation demand. Against this backdrop, Japan, in its “Kinshasa Urban Transportation Master Plan Development Project (PDTK),” has developed an Urban Transportation Master Plan with a target year of 2040, covering eight areas: rail, BRT, bus and paratransit, roads, traffic management, road safety, water transportation, and strengthening organizational and financial systems. 117 projects are proposed. However, the city faces several major challenges in realizing the proposed projects. This cooperation will strengthen the management system and capacity of the administration in the field of urban transportation based on the PDTK by promoting the implementation of the Master Plan for Urban Transportation, establishing a monitoring system and strengthening the urban development management capacity for infrastructure construction, and improving public transportation operations and services, thereby Contribute to the implementation of urban transportation policies based on the PDTK.
