Typhoon No. 14 to approach Kyushu on March 19, with a possibility of over 600 mm of precipitation in 48 hours; heavy rain and storm warnings for a wide area of western Japan during the three-day weekend.

The Japan Weather Association has released information on the outlook for heavy rainfall and disasters associated with Typhoon No. 14.

Typhoon No. 14, which originated on September 14, is moving westward while developing, and is expected to change its course to the north around the 16th, approaching the Nansei Islands around the 18th, and possibly approaching or coming ashore in Kyushu on the 19th.

Rainfall is also expected to be heavier on the southeastern slopes of mountainous regions, including Kyushu, Shikoku, and the Kii Peninsula. Especially in Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures, 48-hour precipitation amounts exceeding 600 mm are possible, which may exceed rainfall amounts observed in the past. There is then a possibility of heavy rain and storms in eastern to northern Japan through the 20th, so caution is advised.
