Metropolitan Expressway performs disaster drills

Posted on September 7, 2022 by News Admin

On September 6, the Metropolitan Expressway conducted a disaster drill under the assumption that an earthquake of intensity 7 had hit the area under its jurisdiction. The drill was based on the assumption that members supporting the girders of an overpass bridge had fallen off at several locations, causing a 20-cm gap in the road surface and a 50-cm gap in the joints of the bridge, and that there were abandoned vehicles on the gaps.

During the drill, the participants confirmed the procedures for moving the stalled vehicles, securing one lane of emergency traffic, and eliminating joint bumps and joint openings with corrective materials and handing boards.

In the training scenario, it is first assumed that the following vehicle is stuck on two lanes due to a vehicle caught in a step or eye opening. The vehicle is moved to one lane using a go jack to clear a lane for emergency vehicles, and then the vehicle is lifted out by a tow truck using a balance bar to rescue the vehicle caught in the gap.
