The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) will change quarantine measures upon entry into Japan in accordance with the relaxation of waterfront measures announced by the government effective September 7. The new measures will apply to those who enter Japan after midnight (Japan Standard Time) on September 7 (related article: “Government Raises Maximum Number of Entrants to 50,000 from September 7; Entry by Package Tours without Accompaniment Also Allowed”).
Previously, all “blue,” “yellow,” and “red” entrants, which indicate the classification of the country/region in which they were staying, were required to undergo pre-departure inspection regardless of whether or not they had a valid vaccination (3 doses) certificate as determined by the government. Under the new rule, all entrants will not be required to undergo pre-departure inspection if they possess a vaccination certificate.
If you do not have a vaccination certificate, you will need to submit a negative certificate for a test taken within 72 hours prior to departure from Japan. For details, please refer to the “Quarantine Measures upon Entry into Japan” on the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare website.
