Supporting post-graduate training of doctors and nurses in Mongolia

Posted on September 5, 2022 by News Admin

In Mongolia, the government has been working to alleviate the shortage of human resources in rural areas by requiring new graduate physicians to work for two years at primary and secondary level medical facilities in rural areas. However, due to lack of clinical experience and inadequate clinical training, newly graduated doctors were unable to provide proper diagnosis and treatment, and an increasing number of patients were transported directly from rural areas to tertiary-level medical facilities in Ulaanbaatar. In response, Japan implemented a technical cooperation project, “Project for Strengthening Post-Graduation Training for Personnel Working in Primary and Secondary Level Medical Facilities,” and helped introduce training in general medicine in rural areas. As a result, a system for training physicians in rural areas has been established and the management capacity for post-graduate training at the administrative level has been strengthened, but many challenges still remain to be overcome in order to spread the general practice training system throughout the country. This cooperation will strengthen the post-graduate training system for physicians, nurses, and midwives by providing quality-managed general practice training for physicians nationwide, strengthening and improving the quality of post-graduate training for nurses and midwives, and strengthening the management capacity of post-graduate training for healthcare personnel, thereby contributing to improving the quality of healthcare services provided by physicians, nurses, and midwives. We will contribute to improving the quality of health care services provided by doctors, nurses, and midwives.
