Hanno City to adopt the “Free Boarding System” that allows passengers to get on and off the bus at locations other than bus stops.

Posted on September 1, 2022 by News Admin

Hanno City will begin demonstration operation of a new means of transportation in the Hara Market (Nakafuji and Nakazawa) and Minami-Korai districts on September 1.

The city has been maintaining and securing public transportation services, including bus routes, in accordance with the “Hanno City Regional Public Transportation Plan.” However, due to the declining birthrate, decreasing population, and the Corona disaster, the city has been facing deteriorating profitability, and operators have voiced their concerns that it would be difficult to continue operating the system under the current system. Therefore, in order to maintain the public transportation system in the future, the company will shift from the current system of operating only large buses.

The vehicle used for the demonstration run is a 14-passenger wagon, and wheelchair users are required to make reservations in advance. The “Free Boarding System” will be adopted, allowing wheelchair users to board and disembark at any place along the route, not just at the bus stops.
