Hakone Tozan Railway revises fares between Odawara and Gora effective October 1. Adult fare increased from 140 yen to 160 yen.

Posted on August 30, 2022 by News Admin

Hakone Tozan Railway announced that it will revise passenger fares on its railroad line (between Odawara and Gora Stations) effective October 1, after receiving approval for the change from the Kanto District Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on August 29. As a result, the starting fare for adults will increase from the current 140 yen to 160 yen.

The average revision rate was 10.9% overall. This includes 11.1% for regular fares, 9.0% for commuter passes, and 9.0% for school passes. Special express fares and seat fares will not be revised.

This revision, the first in 25 years, was prompted by the suspension of service on some sections due to typhoon damage in FY2020, a significant decrease in passengers, and the need to make capital investments that exceeded transportation revenues before the disaster in order to restore service. In order to ensure the safety of future rail transportation and maintain transportation services, passenger fares will be revised to an appropriate level commensurate with costs, taking into consideration the burden on users.

In addition, the company will continue to sell a variety of special tickets, such as the “Hakone Free Pass,” the “Nobiri Ticket,” a one-day ticket for the Hakone Tozan Railway, and the “Owakudani Ticket” for the Tozan Railway and ropeway, and will also work to make station facilities barrier-free, update aging rolling stock and substation facilities, and enhance the dissemination of operation information in order to improve user services. In addition, the company will also work to improve service for passengers by making station facilities barrier-free, updating aging rolling stock and substation facilities, and enhancing the dissemination of operation information.
