JR West has developed a unique point system that can be used only within a specific region, utilizing ICOCA, the company’s IC card. The company plans to use the system as a service for local residents in cooperation with local governments, to give points to tourists, and to link the system with buses and other regional transportation systems. These points will be separate from “ICOCA points.
As the first case study, the service is scheduled to be implemented in Niimi City, Okayama Prefecture, starting in late October 2022. A comprehensive cooperation agreement was signed with Niimi City in February, and an original ICOCA design has been created.
