98% of owners expect to use campervans during evacuation from natural disasters

Posted on August 25, 2022 by News Admin

The Japan RV Association (JRVA) is marketing the “Campervan White Paper 2022,” which compiles a survey of actual campervan users on what they expect from a campervan in the event of a natural disaster and how their attitudes have changed since purchasing a campervan.

At the Tokyo Camper Show 2022 and Hokkaido Camper & Outdoor Show 2022 held in July, JRVA set up a booth to provide information on campervans and also held an exhibition to show how campervans can be used in an emergency. The need for campervans in emergency situations is increasing every day.

In a nationwide survey of campervan users regarding lifestyle changes after purchasing a campervan, many responded that they are now able to travel without worrying about time, and that they are now able to make destinations where they could not go before. It is clear that people are using the convenience of their campervans as destinations for places that cannot be reached by public transportation or for overnight stays in places where there are no accommodations.

It was also found that 25.8% of owners answered that their campervan has increased their awareness of disaster preparedness, indicating that campervans are now recognized as a disaster prevention measure.

In addition, 98.4% of respondents answered that they felt their campervan would be useful in times of disaster. One out of four respondents also considered disaster prevention and disaster preparedness as a reason for purchasing a campervan, indicating that campervans are being used in ways that go beyond “enjoying the outdoors”.

When asked specifically what form of activity they expect their camper to take, the most common response was “space (privacy),” followed by “power supply. Since the camper’s power source can be recharged from running charge, solar panels, etc., a major advantage is that even in the event of a power outage, the camper can maintain the essentials of modern life, such as having lights and charging smartphones.
