BS11 (Japan BS Broadcasting Corporation) and KBS Kyoto will broadcast “Live Broadcast! Kyoto Gozan Okuribi 2022” from 19:03.
The Gozan Okuribi is a religious event to send ancestors back to the other world after they have returned home for the Bon Festival. In 2020 and 2021, the festival was scaled down due to the effects of the new coronavirus, but this year, for the first time in three years, all the mountains will be lit on fire.
BS11 has been broadcasting Gozan Okuribi since 2016. This year, actor Moriguchi Yohko will be the guest, and the main broadcasting booth will be set up in the Shimogamo villa of the former Mitsui family, an important cultural property, to show powerful images from the top of the mountain. The program will also closely follow the preparation work of the Left Daimonji Preservation Society.
