Takahama Cafe, a new tourist base designed by Kengo Kuma, will open in Tottori Sand Dunes on August 20. Open terrace on the rooftop

Posted on August 3, 2022 by News Admin

Tottori Sand Dunes Kaikan will open “Takahama Cafe” on August 20 on the same site (2164 Yuzan, Fukube-cho, Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture).

Tottori Sand Dunes Kaikan is a large drive-in located right in front of the Tottori Sand Dunes National Park, and is popular for its souvenir store offering a wide variety of local specialties and its large dining hall serving seafood dishes with a rich local flavor. The newly opened three-story “Takahama Cafe” was designed by architect Kengo Kuma, and the 9-meter-high rooftop terrace offers a view of the dunes.

The building utilizes lumber from Tottori Prefecture and orthogonal laminated boards that are resistant to earthquakes and fire. An elevator has been installed for wheelchair accessibility. The menu includes locally roasted coffee and handmade craft colas.
