JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with David Beasley, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), at JICA headquarters on July 12.
At the beginning of the meeting, Director General Beasley expressed his appreciation for the contribution of Japan and JICA to the global food insecurity caused by the spread of the new coronavirus and the conflict in Ukraine. In response, President Tanaka expressed his respect for the emergency assistance provided by the WFP and his hope that the two organizations would work together to provide support from a long-term perspective to strengthen the resilience of developing countries against shocks. Furthermore, on the occasion of TICAD 8 to be held in August this year, they exchanged views on communicating global food security and nutrition issues to the world together with various international partners.
