Jalan Research Center, a Recruit Co., Ltd. company, announced the results of the 14th “Domestic Accommodation Travel Needs Survey” conducted among Macromill member monitors (20-79 years old/1652 persons) nationwide. The survey was conducted from July 1 to 2.

According to the survey data, the total of those who “have plans and will go with caution” and “have plans and will go without concern” for future domestic overnight travel has increased consecutively since March to 32.4%, the highest level since the survey began in March 2020.

In addition, 6.0% of respondents said they “plan to travel” during the Obon season, and 10.5% said they “have no plans yet, but would like to travel,” making a total of 16.5% of all respondents expressing a desire to take an overnight trip in Japan during the Obon season. The most popular purposes for both generations were “eating local delicacies” and “hot springs and open-air baths,” while “family vacation with parents” was also popular among those in their 20s.

Daigo Igarashi, a research staff member at the Jalan Research Center, commented on the results, “The desire to travel remains high, and the Obon season is crowded, especially for gourmet food. Family trips with parents tend to be popular among young women,” he explained.

This survey is conducted to regularly hear and disclose travelers’ travel motivations and action plans with the aim of contributing to the revitalization of the domestic overnight travel market as a whole, and has been conducted continuously since March 2020, formerly known as the “Travel Market Impact of the New Coronavirus Infection” survey.
