Tobu Railroad has decided to name the new express train (N100 Series) currently under construction “SPACIA X” and to put it into service on July 15, 2023.
While maintaining and carrying on the tradition of the “Limited Express Spacia” that served the Nikko and Kinugawa areas, the “X” was incorporated to symbolize the role expected of the new train. For the nickname logo, a new typeface was developed based on the image of “Kanuma Kumiko,” which was also used as a motif in the exterior design of the train. The coloring of the train is white, reminiscent of the “gofun” white painted on the Yomeimon Gate, Karamon Gate, and the headquarters of Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and the window frames are based on traditional Kanuma crafts such as kumiko and hand-knitted craftwork.
A café counter is set up in the cockpit lounge. Together with businesses in the Nikko and Kinugawa areas, the company has developed a lineup of products available only on the train. In addition to craft beer “Nikko Brewing” and craft coffee “Nikko Coffee,” the cafe will also offer appetizers, sweets, and other local delicacies. The sales staff at the café will also guide passengers as a travel concierge, providing tourist information rooted in Nikko.
Prior to the start of operation, Tobu Top Tours, Club Tourism, and HIS have launched travel packages for Nikko that include a ride on the “Spacia X” train. Tobu Top Tours, Club Tourism, and HIS offer a wide range of products for individuals and tours, respectively.
