Shin-Osaka Station “Naniwa Horumon Yakiniku Bento”

Posted on July 15, 2022 by News Admin

At “Tabibento Ekiben Nigiwai” located inside the ticket gate of JR Shin-Osaka Station, you can purchase ekiben from all over Japan as well as the Kansai region, from Wakkanai in the north to Kagoshima Chuo in the south. Among the extensive lineup, we chose the “Naniwa Horumon Yakiniku Bento” (grilled beef and hormone bento) as a typical Osaka bento. The package also says, “When you think of Osaka, you think of this aroma that wafts over the platform.

The manufacturer is Awajiya of Kobe, which has been making ekiben since the Meiji Era. The company is a long-established business with a long history, having its roots in a ryotei (Japanese-style restaurant) that once operated in Sonezaki-shinchi, Osaka.

The contents of the bento are a large portion of yakiniku (grilled meat) and horumon-yaki (grilled hormone) on a bed of rice. The yakiniku was a thick cut of beef seasoned with a thick, sweet and spicy sauce. The yakiniku, on the other hand, is a spicy, hot and spicy dish. The hormone yaki, on the other hand, was spicy and chewy, just like the hormones we all know and love. It was also delicious. However, when you open the package, there is a smell peculiar to yakiniku, so you need to be a little careful about that.

The rice is described as “seasoned with kelp tea,” but honestly speaking, it was dominated by the taste of barbecued meat and did not give much chameshi feeling. However, although the rice is laid on the side dishes with thick sauce, it does not stain or transfer the flavor to the rice, and some people may be able to enjoy the flavor of chameshi as well.

There are four types of accompaniments: rape blossoms with sesame oil, seasoned bean sprouts, sweet potato namul, and carrots with sesame oil. These are the standard accompaniments for yakiniku, but the crispy bean sprouts and the sweetness of the carrots in the dressing were well done in terms of both texture and taste. They were very tasty.

Despite its commonplace illustrated package, it is priced at 1,200 yen. Considering its size, it could be called a slightly extravagant ekiben rather than a commonplace ekiben, but after eating it, I was satisfied with the taste.
