West Nile Refugee Reception Area Resilience Strengthening Project

Posted on July 11, 2022 by News Admin

In Uganda, the rapid increase in refugee influx since 2016 and the prolonged stay of refugees have affected public services such as education, health, and water supply, as well as the management of natural resources such as forests, and local residents are becoming increasingly frustrated. In addition to natural disasters such as floods, which have occurred frequently in recent years, there are concerns that the outbreak of new coronavirus infections may cause many vulnerable populations, including the elderly, widows, and people with disabilities, to lose their household goods and means of livelihood, and to require emergency assistance. Support for both refugees and host communities is needed. Under these circumstances, this cooperation, which will be implemented as a humanitarian-development nexus in refugee-receiving areas, aims to improve the capacity of local administrations in the 12 districts of Uganda’s West Nile Region by establishing a mechanism for emergency response and “integrated” development planning that includes refugees. The project will contribute to the promotion of emergency response and integrated development planning in the refugee hosting and refugee-affected counties in the West Nile region.
