Finding a parking space nowadays: 20s and younger use apps, while other age groups look for a parking space on-site.

Park24 announced the results of a survey on pay-by-the-hour parking conducted among members of its membership service for drivers, Times Club.

According to the survey, the top criteria for selecting a pay-by-the-hour parking facility were price (80%) and proximity to the destination (75%), which were more than 50 points ahead of the third-place finisher. Third place went to the “size of parking space,” followed by “congestion” and “availability of parking fee discounts through store tie-ups.

Looking at the first and second most important criteria for selecting a parking lot by age group, “price” was below 80% only for those in their 60s and older, while it was above 80% for the other age groups. Proximity to destination” increased with age, with those in their 60s and older ranking 14 points higher than those in their 20s and younger.

The most common acceptable distance from a pay-by-the-hour parking lot to a destination was “within 5 minutes” on foot, at over 40%. This was followed by “within 3 minutes (23%)” and “within 10 minutes (20%). There were no differences in trends by age or gender.

The most common method of finding a parking space was “Visually” at the site, at 30%, followed by “Car navigation system,” “Apps,” and “Internet map” at 18%. The top three responses by age group show that “Visually inspecting the site” was the top choice for all respondents in their 30s and older, while “Apps” was the top choice for those in their 20s and younger, with “Visually inspecting the site” coming in second. The difference in trends can be seen in the age groups.

The survey revealed that although the largest number of respondents searched for parking by sight, many also used smartphones, including apps and Internet maps, to find a parking space. In particular, those in their 20s and younger used apps the most, a trend that is different from other age groups.
