Kansai Airport will introduce a fully automatic system at Itami Airport (Osaka International Airport) that uses AI to fully automatically attach boarding bridges. The period is from June 27 to June 30, 2024.
The system uses AI and image recognition technology to recognize aircraft doors and complete the installation of boarding bridges at the touch of a button. The boarding bridge is a movable passageway that connects the terminal building and the aircraft, and is used for boarding and disembarking.
The introduction of a fully automatic system is expected to ensure uniform installation regardless of the skill of individual operators, as well as to maintain on-time flight operations and shorten waiting time on board by eliminating the need for re-installation. The system will also prevent human error, thereby contributing to improved safety.
