Improving Quality of Local Medical Services: Bangladesh Ship International Hospital

Posted on June 21, 2022 by News Admin

On June 18, an opening ceremony was held in Dhaka City, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, for Ship International Hospital, which was established through the East West Medical College Hospital Project (funded by an overseas investment and loan). In addition to a video message from Bangladesh Minister of Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek, many Bangladeshi officials, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Naoki Ito, JICA Director Keiichiro Nakazawa, and others were also in attendance.

Ship International Hospital was planned to open as a private general hospital by expanding the existing wards of East West Medical College Hospital and constructing a new annex and service wing, with the aim of providing international standard medical services to the people of Bangladesh at a reasonable price, while utilizing Japanese hospital management know-how. The hospital was to be opened as a private general hospital. However, due to the rapid spread of new coronavirus infection, the hospital was urgently opened in June 2020 as a hospital dedicated to receiving patients with new coronavirus infection, without waiting for the completion of the building, to meet the urgent medical needs of the local population, including Japanese residents. Since then, the hospital has gradually started general medical operations and opened 16 departments including internal medicine, general surgery, and a blood bank, and recently held a ceremony to commemorate its opening as a general hospital.

Green Hospital Supply Corporation, a core company of Ship Healthcare Holdings Corporation, which is active in a wide range of fields in the Japanese healthcare sector, including medical consulting, sales and leasing of medical equipment, dispensing pharmacies, and management of nursing homes, is participating in this project, which is being implemented with Bangladeshi partners. JICA is contributing to the improvement of medical standards in Bangladesh through its investment.
