In the rural cities of Cajamarca, located in the mountainous region of northern Peru, water and sewage facilities were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, but since then, there has been no significant investment in new construction or renewal of facilities. As a result, by the late 2000s, the facilities were aging and did not provide sufficient service in terms of quality and quantity to meet the increasing demand from the growing population. In addition, many cities other than the state capital lacked sewage treatment facilities, and untreated sewage was discharged into rivers, causing concerns about the impact on the living environment of local residents and agriculture. This cooperation improved water and sewage services in small and medium-sized cities in Cajamarca, thereby contributing to the improvement of the living environment for residents of the state.
