In Pakistan, about 30% of the population is said to be poor, and the emphasis is on strengthening maternal and child health care and medical services at public medical institutions where medical costs are low. Sindh Province, where the large city of Karachi is located, is one of the provinces with particularly low maternal and child health indicators due to inadequate access to medical care. The provincial government has therefore set “correcting disparities in access to healthcare services” as one of the pillars of its “Sindh Provincial Health Sector Strategy 2012-2020.” As one of the measures to achieve this goal, the government aims to establish a referral system in each province in order to disperse patients who are concentrated in Karachi due to the lack of medical facilities.
This cooperation will strengthen the diagnostic and treatment systems for maternal and child health care and contribute to improving the quality of health and medical services for mothers and children in Hyderabad by establishing a new maternal and child health care center and improving medical equipment at Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro Branch in the state’s Hyderabad district.
