Development of an Affordable Low Carbon Housing Complexes in Indonesia

Posted on June 6, 2022 by News Admin

Indonesia is the 11th largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world in 2018 due to a rapid increase in energy consumption associated with its remarkable economic growth. Against this backdrop, the Indonesian government has formulated the National Action Plan for Greenhouse Gas Reduction (RAN-GRK), and the draft commitments under the Paris Agreement set a target year of 2030 for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

On the other hand, the country has a hot and humid climate, and there are concerns about a further rise in temperature due to global warming and urbanization, as well as the resulting health hazards and loss of comfort. With the projected expansion of cooling demand and further increase in energy consumption in the housing and building sectors, there is an urgent need to develop housing design methods and building technologies (low-carbon cooling technologies) that can reduce the demand for cooling by creating a comfortable living environment by alleviating the hot and humid conditions.

This cooperation aims to develop comprehensive low-carbon technologies for affordable housing in Indonesia by researching, developing, and standardizing the necessary performance, design methods and construction technologies, and evaluation methods for low-carbon housing complexes, taking into account future temperature increases, thereby contributing to the low-carbonization of the building sector. We will contribute to the low-carbonization of the building sector.
