JR East to hold Shinkansen Train Depot & Circulation Line Cruise, a 9-hour ride

Posted on June 3, 2022 by News Admin

East Japan Railway Company (East Japan Railway) and JR East View Tourism & Sales will hold a special “Shinkansen Year 2022” tour of the Shinkansen rail yard on July 9. Prior to the tour, the company started accepting reservations at 2:00 p.m. on June 3.

The tour departs from Ueno Station, travels around the rail yard, and continues for about 9 hours to Sendai Station, the last stop of the tour. In addition to traveling on the line to the rail yard, the tour will also include an “in-yard operation” (train transfer) at the rail yard. Visitors can enjoy the scenery from inside the train, which they would not normally be able to see, while listening to a guide provided by Shinkansen crew members and employees of each railcar center.

At the Tokyo Shinkansen Rolling Stock Center, the train passes through a car body washing machine and is guided through a garage called the “storage line. At the Oyama Shinkansen Rolling Stock Center, visitors are transferred to the “pull-up line,” which is not directly connected to the main line. At the Shinkansen General Rolling Stock Center, visitors can tour the site, which has a maximum length of approximately 3.5 km, and see each Shinkansen up close.

In addition, boxed lunches with original wrapping paper will be offered.

The one-day plan is priced at 35,000 yen for adults and 25,000 yen for children. The plan to stay in a train view room at Hotel Metropolitan Sendai East is priced at 55,000 yen per adult and 40,000 yen per child (two adults in one room). The maximum number of guests is 360.
