JR Osaka “Umekita Park” construction begins

Posted on May 18, 2022 by News Admin

Mitsubishi Estate and nine developer JVs (operator JVs) for the Umekita 2nd phase development, consisting of Osaka Gas Urban Development, ORIX Real Estate, Kanden Real Estate Development, Sekisui House, Takenaka Corporation, Hankyu Corporation, Mitsubishi Estate Residence, and Umekita Development Special Purpose Company, have announced that they will start full-scale construction of “Umekita Park (tentative name)”.

Directly connected to JR Osaka Station, this 45,000m2 urban park will be developed in an integrated and seamless manner with private residential land consisting of offices, commercial facilities, core functions, a hotel, and condominiums. In addition to actively introducing CO2 reduction technologies throughout the project, the project aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by creating an urban park that can function as a wide-area evacuation site in the event of a large-scale disaster.

With the design concept of “greenery as inspiration and driving force for the future,” the entire site is considered as a single “green” land. The South Park is an urban space, while the North Park is a space rich in greenery and nature, and a land form (embankment) with a maximum height of 3m is placed undulating across the North and South Parks. The north and south parks are to be connected by an overhead passageway, “Hirami no Michi”. Water features and cherry blossoms will also be arranged.

The park will also include buildings with three functions: a “liveliness creation function” such as an event space, an “innovation function” that provides experiences and learning that contribute to life design innovation, and a “food and beverage function” such as cafes and restaurants.
