On the morning of May 9, a baby Francois Tong, a type of macaque listed as endangered as Class 2, was born at Nishiyama Zoo in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture. The baby is characterized by its bright orange body hair, which can be seen only during the first six months of life. The baby is held by its mother and can be observed sleeping peacefully. The park will soon be asking the public for a nickname for the baby. The baby is about 45 cm long, including the tail, and weighs an estimated 150 to 200 grams. The baby is the offspring of Haruki, a 6-year-old male, and Renren, an 18-year-old female. He spends most of the day sleeping in Koi Koi’s arms, and can sometimes be seen actively moving his hands. Her orange body hair is said to gradually grow back to the same black color as her parents from the lower half of her body. The mother’s love love is between 40 and 50 years old in human terms; this was her fifth birth since November 2020. François Lutons are found in the dense forests of northern Vietnam and southern China. A total of 29 animals are kept in six zoos in Japan (as of the end of 2020). Of these, seven, including this baby, are kept at the Xishan Zoo.
