Akihiko Tanaka, President of JICA, met with Prime Minister Tareq Rahman of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Tokyo on October 26.
At the outset, Chairman Tanaka welcomed the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Rahman again, following their meeting in July of this year, and Prime Minister Rahman once again expressed his gratitude for JICA’s long-standing cooperation.
Chairman Tanaka conveyed Japan’s intention to continue cooperating for the country’s sustainable development through the “Moheshkhali-Matabari Integrated Infrastructure Development Initiative”—which includes the Matabari Deep-Sea Port—as well as the development of economic infrastructure such as urban railways, improvements to the investment environment, and disaster prevention and flood control measures, all aimed at supporting the country’s sustainable development. He also noted the importance of cooperation in ensuring the steady implementation of existing yen loan projects.
The two sides exchanged views on the various development challenges facing Bangladesh and on ways to further deepen cooperation in a wide range of fields.
