To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Suica in November, JR East will hold a fan appreciation event featuring its mascot, the “Suica Penguin,” at Ueno Station. On October 21, the company announced that there would be some changes to the originally planned program.
The event was originally scheduled to run from October 30 to November 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day (until 6:00 p.m. on the final day), but the hours have been changed to 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day (until 6:00 p.m. on the final day).
The event will be held in the Grand Concourse outside the Central Ticket Gates at JR Ueno Station. Admission is expected to be on a numbered ticket basis. Details regarding the distribution of tickets and other information will be announced at a later date on the “Penguin Years” special website.
The event was scheduled to feature exhibition panels looking back on the history of the Suica Penguin, as well as a booth where visitors could write messages to the penguin, photo spots, merchandise sales, and meet-and-greets; however, it has been decided that the merchandise sales will be canceled.
Please note that to participate in the greeting event, you’ll need a winning coupon obtained through a random drawing by collecting at least three stamps in the “Suica Penguin Digital Stamp Rally” currently running on the “Ekitag” app by 11:59 p.m. on October 23. You cannot specify or change the participation date and time listed on the coupon.
For other updates, please check the “Penguin Years” special website, which has been launched to mark the Suica Penguin’s retirement.
