The “Crab Crab Day Trip Express” is a great value package that includes round-trip JR Limited Express train tickets and crab cuisine. Enjoy the flavors of winter at hot spring inns in the Northern Kinki, Hokuriku, and San’in regions.

JR West Japan is launching the “Kani Kani Day Trip Express,” a great-value day trip package that combines round-trip JR Limited Express service with a crab meal, through Nippon Travel. Sales at retail locations and via the reservation hotline will begin at 10:00 a.m. on October 5, while 24-hour online reservations through tabiwa Travel’s “Day Trip” service will open at 10:00 a.m. on October 15.

You can choose from Northern Kinki (Kinosaki Onsen, Tajima, Tango, Wakasa, and Amanohashidate), Hokuriku, and San’in, where you can savor the winter delicacy “crab” at hot spring inns and hotels throughout these regions. Some packages also allow you to enjoy “tagged crab,” “yellowtail,” and “tiger pufferfish” together. The travel period runs from November 7 to March 31, 2027 (excluding December 26 through January 4), and reservations are available for groups of two or more (some accommodations offer single-person plans).

As examples of travel costs, for one adult departing from Osaka, using a reserved seat in a standard-class car, and choosing the “Wammi” Plan, the price is 28,000 yen for Awara Onsen in Fukui Prefecture, 22,400 yen for Misasa Onsen in Tottori Prefecture, Kinosaki Onsen in Hyogo Prefecture ranges from 23,800 yen to 25,100 yen (in the Northern Kinki area, you can upgrade to a one-way Green Car seat for an additional 1,300 yen), among others.

Since some inns offer an extra dish as part of their “Weekday Hospitality” program or provide souvenirs, weekdays are said to be the best time to visit. Also, if you’re staying in the Takeno, Satsu, Kasumi, or Hamasaka areas, you can make a stop at Kinosaki Onsen Station on your way back and enjoy visiting the public bathhouses and sampling local sweets.
