“Tourism EXPO Japan 2026,” one of the world’s largest travel events, is being held at Tokyo Big Sight for four days from September 24 to 27. In the Okinawa area, various municipalities and remote islands are showcasing their respective tourist attractions.
One of the booths drawing attention is the Shuri Castle booth, where the main hall—restored on November 23—will be unveiled. With the Main Hall—which was destroyed in the fire on October 31, 2019—finally set to reopen, the event is being heavily promoted. In addition to panel displays on the reconstruction, there are many other highlights, including a talk show on the 27th hosted by the Okinawa-born comedy duo Garagesale.
In addition, the prefecture was providing information about the prefectural lodging tax (2% of the lodging fee, capped at 2,000 yen), which will be introduced on February 1, 2027, and was distributing stickers in exchange for completed surveys.
Some of the highlights include a stamp rally that takes you to six locations and a game where you can receive prizes in exchange for signing up for social media at each stop, so if you’re interested, please stop by.
