The Doctor Yellow T5 train set, scheduled for retirement, will go on display as part of a preservation exhibition starting in September 2027 at a new railway maintenance technology facility in Hiroshima Prefecture.

JR West has decided to preserve and display part of the “Doctor Yellow” T5 train set—which is scheduled to be retired in January 2027—specifically Car No. 7, at a new exhibition facility dedicated to railway maintenance technology. The exhibition is scheduled to begin in September 2027.

Manufactured in 2005, Doctor Yellow has been conducting inspections of electrical and track systems while traveling along the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines, but it will end its inspection operations and be retired in January 2027.

After its retirement, it will be preserved and displayed at a new exhibition facility to be built on the grounds of the “Etajima Training Center ~Mi·Ra·I~” (1-11-1 Kirikushi, Etajima-cho, Etajima City, Hiroshima Prefecture). The plan is to preserve and display it in this new exhibition facility, ensuring that the role and significance of “Doctor Yellow”—which has supported Shinkansen safety—are passed down to future generations.
