[Visiting RV Parks: Base Camps for Overnight Stays in Your RV] Right Under Chichibu Park Bridge in Saitama! We Stayed at a Unique, Lush RV Park Housed in a Repurposed Cattle Barn: Contrad Chichibu Park Bridge RV Park

RV Park Amenities: If you walk from the RV park toward the back of the facility, you’ll find a separate building that was converted from a large warehouse. Inside, there are restrooms, a kitchen area, and a living space. The restrooms are located immediately to the left as you enter. There are three individual stalls: one for men only, one for women only, and one unisex stall. As for the kitchen area, it was the best-equipped of any RV park I’ve visited so far. There are four sinks with hot water, and dish soap and other supplies are always stocked. It features cooking tables, a portable gas stove, and even a large refrigerator. Each campsite is assigned a shelf in the refrigerator, and there is no additional charge for its use. In addition, there is a storage area made from repurposed old dressers, containing rental cooking utensils and tableware that you are free to use. The kitchen area is also called the “event space,” and while you can eat at the tables there, there are some rules to follow. The round table near the entrance is reserved for RV park guests, while the area further back is for log cabin guests only. Also, cooking with charcoal or open fires—such as barbecues—is not permitted in this space.

I Tried Staying at D1 Space This time, I had the chance to use D1 Space. It was more than spacious enough; in addition to a large table, it came equipped with a lantern stand, a battery-powered lantern, an extension cord connected to a power source, and even a refrigerator, so I didn’t need to use the table, lantern, stand, or outdoor lighting I’d brought with me. This is the first RV park I’ve ever been to that provides all of this. Since it’s covered, the space gets dark earlier as the sun sets, but there are ceiling lights at the entrance and in the back, so turning them on makes it bright enough. Currently, users have to manually operate the switches for both lights. While turning them on is fine, I’ll have to make sure not to forget to turn them off at bedtime. Incidentally, the area near the entrance is lit by fluorescent lights, while the “former feeding platform” at the back of the space is lit by a mercury vapor lamp. Compared to fluorescent lights, mercury vapor lamps emit more ultraviolet light, so when left on at night, insects were drawn to them, and hardly any insects were attracted to the LED lantern next to the table. It seems mercury vapor lamps could be useful as a measure against insects during the nighttime in seasons when insects are abundant. Since it’s under the Chichibu Park Bridge, I was curious about how loud the traffic noise would be, but since the sound basically travels upward, it’s quieter than I imagined. I hardly noticed the sound of regular cars passing by. I see. However, when a loud vehicle—like a modified car—passes by, the sound reflects off the surrounding mountains and reaches me. Even so, because of the distance, it’s not loud enough to be bothersome. Furthermore, since there are no nearby facilities that generate noise, the environment is generally quiet at night. In the morning, the roof kept the light from getting too bright, so I was able to sleep in. I also appreciated not being exposed to direct sunlight when I stepped outside. When camping in a car in open areas without a roof, I often feel “dazzled” or “hot” as soon as I wake up, but here, it was comfortable right from the morning.
