[JAL Hometown Ambassadors/Support Team: A Look at Their Love for Their Hometowns] Experience the Thrills of Halloween at Huis Ten Bosch This Year!

JAL, which has bases throughout the country, has been continuously implementing initiatives to revitalize local communities (currently known as the “JAL Hometown Project”), and In August 2020, the company launched the “JAL Hometown Ambassadors” program, in which flight attendants selected through an internal application process relocate to local communities to promote initiatives in their respective regions. Additionally, in December of the same year, the company appointed the “JAL Hometown Support Team,” whose members engage in regional revitalization efforts while continuing to fly. The aim is to utilize the expertise cabin crew members have cultivated in their roles to develop products and address regional challenges in their hometowns or areas with which they have ties.

We spoke with Mana Sato, a JAL Hometown Ambassador who is involved in promoting Huis Ten Bosch’s fall events in Nagasaki.

――Please tell us about your efforts.

Hello, everyone. I’m Sato, the JAL Hometown Ambassador for Nagasaki Prefecture. It’s been getting cooler lately, and the city is now filled with autumn-themed events.

This time, I went to Huis Ten Bosch—a theme park resort about 33 times the size of the Tokyo Dome—to experience their spine-chilling Halloween event, so I’d like to tell you all about it!

――What kinds of events are held there?

The “Haunted Halloween” event, a huge hit every year, offers the most terrifying horror experience yet, featuring not only the new tyrant “Death King,” who makes his debut this year, but also the messengers of darkness.

I experienced it firsthand: in a dim, eerie space, messengers of darkness were scattered in every direction, closing in on me from point-blank range to intimidate me.

While I was filming a video, I suddenly heard a soft snort from behind me. I instinctively turned around and locked eyes with a messenger of darkness wrapped head-to-toe in bandages… It was such a terrifying experience—I felt like I was in a life-or-death situation—that I couldn’t help but scream, “Gyaa!”

Since screams could be heard from all over the venue, we recommend that children and those who aren’t fans of horror enjoy the event from the safety areas located on either side of the venue.

We also enjoyed the “Miffy & Friends Halloween Party Parade,” where Miffy and her friends appear in costume. If you say “Trick or treat,” you’ll receive limited-edition candy, so be sure to give it a try.

After the parade, we headed to Umbrella Street to experience the colorful world of Miffy.

By the way, at the Greeting Gallery, you can meet Miffy all year round and take commemorative photos with her, so why not let the adorable Miffy soothe your soul?

To cap off a day filled with fun activities, we were treated to a moving experience at the fountain night show, “Shower of Lights.”

In addition to live performances on the violin and piano, we were even treated to a luxurious live vocal performance, instantly transforming the venue into a romantic setting. The performance was so breathtaking that spontaneous applause and cheers erupted as soon as it ended—it was one surprise after another.

――Please share a message for travelers.

This Halloween, head to Huis Ten Bosch for a Halloween experience like no other. Why not scream, dance, and make some unforgettable memories?
