JR Central and JR West announced that they will revise the reserved-seat express fares for the “Nozomi” and “Mizuho” trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines, as well as the Green Car fares for all trains.
This measure is intended to address rising costs associated with safety and service maintenance due to inflation; the revised reserved-seat limited-express fares will take effect for tickets purchased on or after July 1, 2027. While fares for unreserved seats in standard cars will remain unchanged, the total fare—including the reserved-seat limited express fare for adults traveling one-way between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka during the regular season—will be 15,420 yen, which is 700 yen higher than the current rate; for the Tokyo–Nagoya route, the price will be 11,880 yen (up 580 yen), and for the Tokyo–Hiroshima route, it will be 20,620 yen (up 860 yen).
The revised Green Car fares will take effect for trips beginning on December 15, 2027. For example, the fare for distances up to 600 km will increase by 3,000 yen, from the current 5,400 yen to 8,400 yen; as a result, the total one-way fare for an adult traveling in Green Car between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka during the regular season will be 23,290 yen (an increase of 3,700 yen).
As part of these upgrades, the Green Cars (cars 8–10) on the N700A and N700S trains will be equipped with “multi-function armrest seats” and “partitioned seats,” featuring adjustments to the recline angle (from 123 degrees to 116 degrees) and the adoption of flip-up footrests, the installation of a powder room in Car 9 of the N700S, and a reduction in lateral sway during train passing maneuvers by approximately 10% through improved control of the full-active dampers. Additionally, starting October 26, 2026, the company will expand the free Wi-Fi service “S Wi-Fi for Biz” and introduce 5G-compatible transparent glass antennas.
New waiting rooms exclusively for passengers traveling in the “Supreme Class” (the highest-class seating) and Green Cars will be established inside the ticket gates at major stations. Starting with Shinagawa, Shin-Yokohama, Kyoto, Kokura, and Hakata on December 15, 2027, these facilities will be rolled out sequentially to Tokyo and Shin-Osaka (fiscal year 2028), Nagoya (FY 2029), and other locations.
The price of the “Supreme Class Seat”—a semi-private seating option scheduled for introduction during fiscal year 2027—will be set at the same level as the fully private “Supreme Class Cabin” (which was introduced in advance on October 1, 2026). During regular periods, the fare for the Tokyo–Shin-Osaka route is 45,800 yen via Express Reservation, and and 46,090 yen via Smart EX.
