JAL will increase the amount of the special fuel surcharge applied to tickets issued between November 1 and December 31.
The two-month average price of Singapore kerosene from August to September was $159.19 per barrel. Multiplying this by the average exchange rate for the same period—157.61 yen per U.S. dollar—yields a yen-denominated value of 25,089 yen for the Singapore kerosene market price; consequently, the fuel surcharge applied to airline tickets issued from November through December will be based on 25,000 yen.
However, due to the government’s emergency measures to mitigate sudden changes, tickets issued from November through December will be subject to a reduction based on the 24,000-yen standard.
In the previous announcement, based on a 20,000-yen benchmark, the figures were 5,900 yen for South Korea, 12,400 yen for Taiwan, 30,900 yen for Hawaii, and 50,000 yen for Europe, the U.S., and Australia.
