[Naoki Wakabayashi’s Travel Photo Gallery] “Floral Garden Obuse” and a Stroll Through Obuse Town (Nagano Prefecture)

Since there aren’t many flowers this time of year, I decided to stop by “Floral Garden Obuse.” Admission is free, and it was a beautiful, quiet garden where I could relax and enjoy myself.

There are restaurants, flower shops, and gift shops on the grounds, and it’s fun just to look around. Nearby, apple orchards, chestnut groves, and persimmon trees are laden with fruit, giving you a real sense of autumn.

Thanks to the “Townscape Restoration Project,” which began in 1982, Obuse Town features an expansive streetscape of earthen walls and a nostalgic, old-world atmosphere. It’s a town where you can enjoy strolling for hours, exploring long-established chestnut confectionery shops, popular cafes, and art museums.

To reach the center of Obuse, it’s a 7-minute drive from the Obuse Smart IC on the Joshin’etsu Expressway. There are plenty of parking lots in the area, making it very convenient. By train, take the Nagano Electric Railway from Nagano Station, and it’s about a 10-minute walk from Obuse Station. The Floral Garden is another 10-minute walk east from the town center.

In the fall, Obusedo offers specialty chestnut confections like “Kuri no Tenshin Suzaku,” which you can’t enjoy without making a reservation, and there are also impressive art museums like the Hokusai Museum, so it’s definitely a place you should visit and enjoy.
