I Visited “Tfrom Yaesu Tower,” Directly Connected to Tokyo Station! It Was a Place Brimming with the Unique Charm and Culinary Delights of Yaesu

The “TOFROM YAESU” redevelopment project, led by Tokyo Tatemono and other participating organizations, will open the “TOFROM YAESU TOWER” on September 10. “TOFROM YAESU” consists of two buildings: “TOFROM YAESU TOWER” and “TOFROM YAESU THE FRONT.” It features restaurants, the “Tokyo Yaesu Bus Terminal Basement A” (which opened in March of this year), and the “Tokyo Tatemono Pia Theater & Conference” (currently in its pre-opening phase), as well as offices, medical facilities, and conference facilities. The new addition is “TOFROM YAESU TOWER,” a large-scale mixed-use building directly connected to Tokyo Station, with 51 floors above ground and 4 floors below ground, standing approximately 250 meters tall. Since it was opened to the press ahead of its official opening, I went to check it out right away.

“TOFROM YAESU” Components: • TOFROM YAESU THE FRONT (Offices, Retail Spaces, Restaurants)

・TOFROM YAESU TOWER (Offices, Retail Spaces, Restaurants)

・Tokyo Yaesu Bus Terminal, Basement Level A (inside the TOFROM YAESU TOWER)

・Tokyo Tatemono Pia Theater & Conference (inside TOFROM YAESU TOWER)

・Nippon Medical School Yaesu Health Checkup Station (located within TOFROM YAESU TOWER) The main attraction of “TOFROM YAESU TOWER” is the commercial zone “TOFROM YAESU Shop & Restaurant.” As of September 10, 55 stores have opened. Some stores, as well as those located within “TOFROM YAESU THE FRONT,” are scheduled to open sequentially starting in winter 2026.

A lineup of renowned restaurants perfect for a stop after work or while sightseeing in Tokyo. As detailed in a separate article, the biggest highlight is “YAESU Tokyo-kai,” a specialty zone lined with shops and renowned restaurants that capture the unique atmosphere of Tokyo. Traditional kappo restaurant “Kappo Shimamura,” with a history spanning over 170 years, and the long-established authentic Chinese restaurant “Tai Kou Rou TOKYO” have reopened. In addition, popular Tokyo restaurants such as the tempura shop “Ten Yokota: Asu e” and the yakitori shop “Yakitori Omino Shizuku” have opened new locations here, making it a hot topic. To mark the opening, a tour led by Atsushi Mitamura of Tokyo Tatemono’s Commercial Business Division was held. We asked him about the unique appeal of the shops, which stems from their origins in Yaesu. “Including the shops that were originally here, there are many new ones as well—it’s a place where you can enjoy a variety of flavors through this blend of old and new. Many of the shops also have a distinct cultural flair, which is another part of their charm,” said Mr. Mitamura. “From places where workers can enjoy a quick bite to high-end venues suitable for business entertainment, I believe there’s something for every occasion, so please feel free to visit whenever the mood strikes,” he added.

The exterior features a “stacked box” design, and walkways have been installed to enhance circulation within the area. The lower section of “TOFROM YAESU TOWER” features a “stacked box” design. Many stores are positioned along the street level. By arranging a series of small-scale buildings and street-level stores, the design aims to three-dimensionally recreate the authentic Yaesu streetscape. In addition, walkways connecting the four streets—Yaesu-dori, Yaesu Naka-dori, Sotobori-dori, and Sakura-dori—have been constructed to improve circulation. The design capitalizes on the area’s high diversity and sense of community, allowing visitors to experience both the old and new sides of Yaesu. Furthermore, “Hinokimono-cho Square,” a plaza within the building, features a permanent exhibition of the “portable shrine” from Hinokimono-cho used in the Sanno Festival—one of Japan’s three major festivals. This is one of the ways the project incorporates elements that evoke the traditions of Yaesu.
