The Ministry of Finance will issue a commemorative coin for the 2027 International Horticultural Exposition. The lineup consists of only one type of coin: a 1,000-yen silver coin. The selling price is 33,500 yen, and 40,000 coins will be issued.
The surface features “Tunkutunk,” the official mascot of GREEN×EXPO 2027, alongside native Japanese plants that will be planted at the horticultural expo venue. It depicts six species: white Japanese lily-of-the-valley, yellow Japanese spirea, reddish-purple Japanese pinks, pink Japanese rose, bluish-purple bellflower, and mountain lily with spots on the inner surfaces of its white petals.
The reverse side features the official GREEN×EXPO 2027 logo, and the sides are engraved with diagonal reeded edges. The coin is made of sterling silver, weighs 31.1 grams, and has a diameter of 40 mm.
Sales will run for approximately three weeks starting December 2, and products are scheduled to be shipped starting around late March 2027. Information on how to apply will be announced on the Japan Mint’s website after 5:00 p.m. on December 1. The Japan Mint will be the sole distributor; products will not be available for redemption at financial institutions or other retail locations.
