Nicknames have been chosen for the Horticultural Expo’s Theme Pavilion “Nekko,” the Horticultural Culture Pavilion “Iroha Niwa,” and the indoor exhibition facility “Hanameguri.” Every 19th of the month is now “Tunk Tunk Day.”

Theme Pavilion “NEKKO” (Eng.: Theme Pavilion “NEKKO”) The nickname, inspired by plant roots, was adopted based on the pavilion’s concept: “All life is connected—with a focus on plants.” The architecture of the pavilion itself is said to incorporate the rationality of plant forms and structures. Based on the latest scientific findings, the exhibits are designed to convey “the unknown capabilities of plants and the complex, ingenious connections between all forms of life” through six zones dedicated to art and entertainment.

Horticultural Pavilion “IROHA-GARDEN” (English: Horticultural Pavilion “IROHA-GARDEN”)—As this pavilion conveys the aesthetic sensibilities and techniques of Japan’s unique horticultural traditions, passed down since the Edo period, through hands-on exhibits and experiences, it has adopted a nickname that combines the sound of the Old Japanese phrase “Iroha” with the word “garden.” This time, the pavilion has released images of the “Edo Nursery and Flower House” exhibition, which focuses on the theme of “Feeling” out of the three themes: “Learn,” “Feel,” and “Connect to the Future.” It is said that Edo-period nursery owners were already engaged not only in production and sales but also in breeding new varieties, disseminating cultivation methods, and distributing horticultural books, while flower estates served as hubs for the exchange of horticultural culture. The exhibition will recreate the atmosphere of that era and feature rotating displays of plants that change with the seasons.
