“Tourism EXPO Japan 2026,” one of the world’s largest travel events, is being held at Tokyo Big Sight for four days, from September 24 to 27.
At the opening ceremony held on the first day, Mr. Masanobu Komoda, Chair of the Tourism EXPO Japan Organizing Committee and President of the Japan Tourism Promotion Association, declared the event open, He touched on the current situation facing the tourism industry, noting, “While domestic travel is steadily recovering and inbound tourism remains at a high level, outbound travel, though showing signs of a rebound, is still in the process of recovery.”
The theme of this year’s event is “The Evolving Nature of Travel,” and the organizers stated, “We must adapt to major changes, such as shifts in travelers’ attitudes and values, technological advancements, efforts to attract visitors to regional areas, and the promotion of sustainable tourism. “We aim to create new value through exchange and enable tourism to play a leading role as one of Japan’s core industries, while also looking forward to the creation of new business opportunities through the exhibitions, business meetings, and seminars held at the venue,” he stated.
He also expressed hope that “the Tourism EXPO will serve as an opportunity to build momentum,” given that GREEN×EXPO 2027 (the 2027 International Horticultural Exposition) is set to open in six months.
