On August 26, JR East announced that it would discontinue sales of the current Suica (card type) featuring the “Suica Penguin” once stocks run out at various sales locations, such as station ticket vending machines.
It has been decided that the Suica mascot, “Suica Penguin,” will step down at the end of fiscal year 2026 (March 2027), and a new mascot is scheduled to debut in April 2027.
There are three types of Suica: the traditional physical IC card, “Mobile Suica,” which is issued through the official app or Google Wallet, and “Suica for Apple Pay,” which is issued through the Apple Wallet app.
Specifically, for Apple Pay Suica, the card image displayed in the Wallet app will be temporarily changed to a plain design. The new mascot is scheduled to appear in Mobile Suica and other services following the handover.
